Shari Weschler

Shari Weschler is an owner and the director of Coastal Contemporary Gallery founded May of 2018 in Newport, Rhode Island. The gallery represents over thirty exceptional national and regional artists with an expanding list of guests, including international artists and curators. Weschler has served as a board member, curator, co-curator, juror, consultant and portfolio reviewer for other prestigious galleries, associations and collaboratives. She strives to present a cutting-edge cache of exhibitions in the winter and fall months, while featuring salon-style shows during the spring and summer seasons for Newport’s global audience to get a taste of the variety available from her roster. The gallery believes strongly in the collaborative as a platform for expansion and exposure with other local and New England businesses.

Weschler, branded as Sumo Bunni, is an American figural narrative painter who exhibits nationally and internationally. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art, with concentration in painting and art history. While attending MICA she also studied drawing, printmaking and gelatin silver photography. Her exhibition history includes over thirty solo and forty group shows and has been published extensively. She is an avid collector of fine art and masks.
